We know PharmD students are multi-talented, but a Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy student took things to a whole new level a few weeks ago. Camille Schrier, PharmD student, was crowned Miss Virginia 2019 on June 22!
About Miss Virginia 2019
Camille Schrier is a 23-year-old Doctor of Pharmacy student at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She is originally from Pennsylvania.
According to a VCU blog, she got involved in pageants at the age of 14 but chose to put pageantry on hold while she pursued her education in pharmacy. That is, until she learned about the Miss America 2.0 pageant. The company’s updated values and focus on professionalism attracted her.
Her Passion for STEM Education and Medication Safety
Camille has always had an interest in science. So, when it came time to develop her performance for the talent portion of the Miss Virginia competition, she chose a non-traditional approach.
Instead of singing or dancing to win over the judges, she conducted a chemistry experiment on stage. The results were explosive—literally! Check out the video of her talent performance below:
In keeping with the science and education theme, Camille has also chosen to focus on medication safety as her platform during her year as Miss Virginia. She’s calling it “Mind Your Meds.” She hopes to help educate the public about using medication safely to avoid drug abuse.
What’s Next for Miss Virginia
Camille’s reign as Miss Virginia 2019 has officially begun. She’s chosen to take a year off pharmacy school at VCU to focus on her duties at Miss Virginia, but plans to return to VCU to finish the PharmD program.
You can follow along as Camille competes for the Miss America title in September. Who knows, you might even see some more chemistry!
